Facility Design & Construction’s Minor Construction and Renovations team provides architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection services for a wide range of remodeling, expansions, and small projects under $200,000.  

Many State facilities are more than fifty years old and require modernization. The Maintenance and Renewal Program, established by the Texas State Legislature in 2023, provides for the systematic update of State buildings to modernize workspaces, finishes, and fixtures to create attractive work environments for conducting State business.  

The Texas Facilities Commission collects data from multiple sources to document the conditions of the State’s real estate portfolio. This data is used to understand and prioritize maintenance needs and create projects funded through capital appropriations. As a full-cost recovery program, resources are leveraged through outsourced contracts with private contractors for specialized trades or during times of peak workloads. The program is supported by the Texas Facility Commission’s in-house professional design staff (A/E Design Services), as needed.
