State of Texas Child Care Program
In 1989, the State of Texas Child Care Program was established by the Texas Legislature to serve State of Texas employees of all income levels and ensure access to quality childcare services. The program was assigned to the Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) to accommodate in a state facility.
TFC contracts the day-to-day operation of the state-employee childcare program to the University of Texas at Austin’s Child Development Center. The program is located in a specially designed space in the Barbara Jordan Building, known as Emma’s Garden, in tribute to Emma Barrientos the inspiration of the original legislation.
The Capitol Complex Child Care Center serves children aged six weeks to five years old of state employees or families affiliated with The University of Texas at Austin.
