TFC Employee Benefits
There are many benefits to working for the State of Texas and with TFC. The State of Texas offers employees competitive salaries, career advancement, health and dental insurance, along with paid vacation and sick leave.
Leave Benefits:
- Sick Leave – New full-time employees earn eight (8) hours a month (96 hours each year) of sick leave. Available sick leave will not expire. Eligible employees can also apply for extended sick leave and leave from the Sick Leave Pool for long-term illness or injury.
- Vacation Leave- TFC employees accrue annual (or vacation) leave each month based on state tenure. New full-time employees earn a minimum of 96 hours a year of annual leave.
- State Holidays- Employees are entitled to a paid day off from work on national and state holidays that the State observes.
- Compensatory Time - Employees who work more than their scheduled hours in a work week can earn compensatory time off for later use.
Health Insurance:
The State pays 100% of the monthly premium for eligible full-time employees' health coverage and half of eligible family members’ premiums.
Eligible full-time employees of state agencies are automatically enrolled in the HealthSelect of Texas® point-of-service plan, starting the first day of the month after the 60th day of employment.
- HealthSelect- This plan is a self-funded insurance plan, available to employees, retirees and their dependents that are eligible to participate in the Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) health plan.
- HealthSelect/Express Scripts Inc.- Prescription Drug Program
- Consumer Directed HealthSelect- This plan is a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) paired with a tax-free health savings account (HSA). A high deductible means you could have higher out-of-pocket costs before your health plan begins to pay.
Dental Insurance:
Dental Coverage begins upon employment. Employees may choose between two dental insurance plans.
- State of Texas Dental Choice Plan - Delta Dental The State of Texas Dental Choice Plan is a preferred provider organization (PPO) dental insurance plan. You can see any dentist you want, but you will pay less if you go to a dentist in one of two Delta Dental networks.
- DeltaCare USA DHMO The employee dental health maintenance organization (DHMO) plan option is provided through Delta Dental. Before you enroll, make sure there is a DHMO network dentist in your area. You and your covered dependents are not required to select the same primary care dentist.
Vision Insurance:
- EyeMed- Save money on eye exams and eyewear for you and your family with a small monthly premium and low co-pays. And coverage begins upon employment.
Life Insurance:
- Securian Financial- Eligible employees can participate in both Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance for yourself and your dependents.
Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment:
- Voluntary AD&D- This benefit provides additional protection for you and your family if you or an eligible dependent has injuries from or dies in an accident.
TexFlex:
TexFlexSM flexible spending accounts (FSAs) helps to pay less in federal income taxes by setting aside money pre-tax from your paycheck to cover eligible out-of-pocket health care and/or dependent care expenses. By lowering your taxable income, a TexFlex account can save you money. Short Term/Long Term Disability:
Texas Income Protection Plan- This plan offers short-term and long-term disability coverage that protects your income by paying a percentage of your paycheck if you become totally disabled. Retirement Program – Employee Retirement System of Texas Benefits (ERS):
- Retirement Program- As a state agency employee, you will contribute a portion of your salary each month to a State of Texas Retirement account that ERS manages and invests for you. Employee’s contributions begin the month you start working for the state. For more information regarding State of Texas retirement benefits, visit the ERS retirement website.
Texa$aver Program- Eligible employees can contribute to a Texa$aver 401(k) and/or 457 retirement savings account. Texa$aver offers a variety of investment options at lower-than-average fees to help employees add to their retirement income for greater financial security when they stop working Other Benefits:
- Longevity Pay- Provided to all eligible full-time employees who have at least two years of lifetime service credit. Longevity pay increases every 2 years.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)- Confidential service to deal with life stresses at no cost to employees and their families.
- State of Texas Child Care Program (Capitol Complex Child Care Center)- The center was established by the Texas Legislature to serve State of Texas employees of all income levels and ensure access to quality childcare services.
